STEM Summer Professional Development day: Tuesday 20 – Friday 23 January 2026
Who: Teachers looking for Professional Development during the school holidays!
What: During the school holidays, the National Capital Education Tourism Project is presenting a STEM Summer Professional Development day. The team at Snowy STEM Academy will be presenting a hands-on session on one of our new lessons: How Snowy 2.0 Unearthed an Ancient Mystery, and you don’t want to miss it!
The hour-long session is filled with intensive activities, exploring hidden and mysterious areas of the 2.0 scheme, and is inspired by a real life discovery that occurred on the project!
This, along with many other STEM sessions are available exclusively at the STEM Summer School held by NCETP.

Cooma Careers Fair: Wednesday 25 March 2026
Who: Registered year 10 students
What: Our Year 10 Career Fair gives students a hands-on, real-world look at the exciting STEM career pathways available right here in their own backyard. From immersive experiences to meeting industry experts, the day was packed with inspiration, learning and provided a glimpse into the workforce of the future. Students explored engineering, climate science, and technology through talks from Snowy team members, including engineers, surveyors, apprentices, and tech specialists. A career panel and Q&A session provided insights and advice, helping students learn more about potential career paths.

Talbingo Careers Fair: Wednesday 22 April 2026
Who: Registered year 10 students
What: Our Year 10 Career Fair gives students a hands-on, real-world look at the exciting STEM career pathways available right here in their own backyard. Local Schools STEM Fund: March – April 2026
Who: Local Schools
What: Since its launch in 2023, the Local School STEM Fund has provided regional schools in the Snowy Mountains, Snowy Valleys, Towing and Cessnock areas with critical resources to bridge the gap between industry innovation and classroom learning.

Future events
International Women’s Day STEM High Tea: Annually – Every March
Who: Year 11 and 12 Students
What: Celebrating International Women’s Day, the Snowy STEM Academy invites local year 11 and 12 students to a STEM High Tea, connecting students with industry experience from our Snowy Hydro engineers as well as external guest speakers

Entry Level Programs Roadshow: Annually – May – June
Who: year 11 and 12 Students
What: In collaboration with the Development team of Snowy Hydro, the ELP Roadshows provides an opportunity to explore Entry Level programs such as traineeships and apprenticeships that are provided at Snowy Hydro.
Where: Locally near Cooma NSW
ConASTA: 7 – 10 July 2026
Who: Science teachers, educators, lab technicians, and the science education industry
What: ConASTA stands for the Conference for Australian Teacher’s Association. The Snowy STEM Academy attends ConASTA every year to provide new ways to look into STEM via assets, engineering and science at Snowy Hydro and in the Snowy Hydro Scheme.
Where: 2026 ConASTA will be held in Brisbane
National Science Week: 15 – 23 August 2026
Who: All Australian Students and Teachers!
What: National Science Week is Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology. Running each year in August, it features more than 2,000 events around Australia, including those delivered by universities, schools, research institutions, libraries, museums and science centres. Each year the Snowy STEM Academy creates experiences that align with each year’s National Science Week theme.
In 2026 the theme is “Seeds of science: Nurturing knowledge for all”

Powering Up the Future competition – Annually – August – October
Who: All Australian School Age Students age 8+
What: The Snowy STEM Academy runs an annual STEM competition. In 2025, the Powering Up the Future national STEM competition invited students to invent a bold new idea, technology, or system that helps save or reuse energy to lower emissions. With Winner and Runner-up prizes for both Community Choice and Judges Choice awards, in 2025 there were 8 chances to win up to $3,000 worth of prizes for the winner and their school!
Where: Any student aged 8+ from anywhere in Australia could submit an entry online, making this competition accessible nation wide.
All-year-round events
Education Programs at the Discovery Centre
Who: Any school or school aged community groups
What: Throughout the year, we supply our three types of programs for schools to attend, providing insight into select curriculum topics including water, electricity, energy and much more. This includes our PowerUp, Megawatt and Gigawatt programs.
Where: The Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre – Cooma NSW
Events supported by the Snowy STEM Academy
Community Grants Program: Feb-April and Sept-Nov
Who: Community groups and businesses in the regions where Snowy Hydro operate
What: The Education Team support the Community Grants Program for our local businesses. Round two is now open. Applications open 14 September 2025 9am. Applications close 12 October 2025 11:55pm
Where: Snowy Monaro, Snowy Valleys and Towong local government areas
Harmony Week: Annually – March
Who: Primary School Students
What: During Harmony Week, the Snowy STEM Academy hosts a Harmony Day afterschool event for children to communicate their own meaning of harmony. This event is heavily linked with Multicultural Centers.
Where: The Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre – Cooma NSW
Reconciliation Week: Annually – May/June
Who: All community members
What: The Snowy STEM Academy team assist in events for reconciliation week every year, reflecting its importance to all ages

NAIDOC Week: July
Who: Local students, school staff and Snowy Hydro staff
What: During NAIDOC Week, the Snowy STEM Academy runs tailored programs with First Nations STEM. This includes internally with staff and externally with students.
