To ensure you don’t miss out we encourage all visitors to book their visit for both our theatre experiences and our interpretative areas. 

  • Scheduled sessions start on the hour between 9am and 4pm Monday to Friday. On weekends the last scheduled session is available at 1pm.

Discovery Cafe

Feeling hungry? Why not try a homemade pie, sausage roll or pastry, or choose from a variety of fresh sandwiches and rolls, delicious cakes and other sweet treats. We serve great barista-made coffee, organic teas, ‘infamous’ milkshakes and a range of iced and cold drinks.

Sit out on our lawns where the kids have plenty of space to stretch their legs! We take group bookings of up to 10 people in the cafe. Take advantage of our free WiFi and our mobile recharge station.

Discovery Shop

Our Discovery Shop has something for everyone with a range of books, clothing, STEM and science-based products.

Getting here

Whether you walk, drive or fly, the Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre and Cafe is easy to get to. Located in Cooma, the capital of the Snowy Mountains in southern New South Wales.

By car – located just over an hour drive south of Canberra and less than hour’s from Jindabyne. There’s plenty of free car parking, plus additional caravan and trailer parking. There is also a Chargefox Electric Vehicle charging station on site.

By plane – Snowy Mountains Airport is located 16km south-west of Cooma on the Kosciuszko Road. The airport provides return services from the Snowy Mountains to Sydney and is serviced by Regional Express (Rex).

By bus – a regular loop service is available around town.

By foot – Take an easy 20-minute walk from the Cooma town centre.

Kindly note: If you are unwell, please save your visit for another time. 

Capacity is 26 patrons indoors and 26 patrons outdoors – with the table limit being 10 patrons.
Takeaway service available. No bookings taken.

We have put measures in place to prioritise the health and wellbeing of everyone. The conditions of entry for visitors to the Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre have been updated to reflect public health orders.

Upon entry, all visitors need to: 

  • Maintain a distance of 1.5m at all times. 
  • Complete our contact registers – these details will be disposed of after 28 days and used only for the purpose of COVID contact tracing.
  • Comply with limits to capacity in our interpretative area, theatre spaces and Discovery Cafe. 
  • Practice safe hygiene and make use of the sanitising stations throughout the centre.
