This year we celebrate our 70th year of the Snowy Scheme. In October 1949 the then Governor-General, Sir William McKell, Prime Minister Ben Chifley and Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric Authority Commissioner William Hudson fired the first blast at Adaminaby to commence construction on the mighty Snowy Scheme.
Celebration events and activities will be held, including a reunion event on Saturday 19 October from 11am-3pm on the lawns of the Snowy Hydro office in Cooma. Details of this function and other regional activities will be provided in coming weeks. These events will provide the opportunity to reflect on our history and celebrate one of the nation’s greatest engineering achievements.
