Snowy Hydro expects Snowy 2.0 to create a range of business opportunities in the local region. In fact, more than 50 Snowy Mountains-based businesses have been involved in Snowy 2.0 to date.
While Snowy Hydro owns the Snowy 2.0 project, large civil and electrical and mechanical contractors will manage the project’s procurement, specialist subcontracting and workforce requirements.
Snowy Hydro has selected its preferred contractors for Snowy 2.0 and contract negotiations are currently being finalised, along with an Australian Industry Participation Plan for the project, which formally outlines opportunities for Australian businesses.
When these contracts are finalised, further information about procurement requirements for the project, and contact details for the contractors’ procurement team, will be available.
Local companies interested in the project can register with the Snowy 2.0 Business Directory to receive updates as the project progresses. Details of the Snowy 2.0 Business Register are being provided to the preferred contractors, who are listed below. There will also be local business information sessions, jointly hosted by Snowy Hydro and the contractors, in the coming months.
Following extensive competitive tender processes over the last 18 months, Snowy Hydro has appointed Australian and global experts in construction, engineering and hydropower as preferred tenderers for the Snowy 2.0 project.
Civil works - ‘Future Generation’ is a partnership between Australian construction and engineering company, Clough, with global hydropower and tunnelling specialists, Salini Impregilo, as well as Lane Construction.
Electrical and mechanical works - Voith Hydro is a world leader in hydropower engineering and equipment supply, and will deliver the latest hydro-generation technology in the new power station.
Exploratory Works Roads - South Australian company Leed Engineering and Construction has already commenced pre-construction activities.
Snowy Hydro has selected its preferred contractors (listed above) for Snowy 2.0 and contract negotiations are currently being finalised. These principal contractors will be responsible for directly hiring the project’s construction and services workforce. Once contracts are finalised, further information about employment opportunities with the contractors will become available.
Snowy 2.0 is an exciting project that will bring a significant workforce to the Snowy Mountains region for up to seven years while it is under construction. Hiring a local workforce is an important element of the Snowy 2.0 workforce plan.
