Snowy Hydro expects Snowy 2.0 to create a range of business opportunities in the local region. In fact, more than 50 Snowy Mountains-based businesses have been involved in Snowy 2.0 to date.
While Snowy Hydro owns the Snowy 2.0 project, large civil and electrical and mechanical contractors will take the lead on construction. These principal contractors will manage the project’s procurement, specialist subcontracting and workforce requirements. Snowy Hydro will work closely with the principal contractors to submit an Australian Industry Participation Plan for the project, which will formally outline opportunities for Australian businesses.
Local companies interested in the project can register with the Snowy 2.0 Business Directory to receive updates as the project progresses. The Business Register will be shared with the principal contractors and information sessions will also be held with local businesses across the Snowy Mountains region.
Snowy 2.0 is an exciting project that will bring a significant workforce to the Snowy Mountains region for up to seven years while it is under construction. While Snowy Hydro owns the project, large civil and electrical and mechanical contractors will take the lead on construction. These principal contractors will be responsible for directly hiring the project’s construction and services workforce. Snowy Hydro will work closely with them to finalise the workforce plan to better understand the size, make-up and expertise of the workforce during the different phases of the project. Hiring a local workforce is an important element of the workforce plan. Snowy Hydro will update the website with more information about employment opportunities with the principal contractors as it comes to hand.
