Laverton North Gas-fired Power Station
Snowy Hydro Limited owns and operates a 320 megawatt gas fired power station at Laverton North, Victoria. The station was commissioned in December 2006 to assist Victoria in meeting its current growth in peaking electricity demand.
The station comprises two open cycle gas turbines fuelled by gas supplied via the Brooklyn-Lara gas pipeline. In the event of a gas supply curtailment, the station can be operated on low sulphur emission distillate backup fuel.
The station is remotely from Snowy Hydro’’s central control room in Cooma, NSW, but is also equipped with full local control.
