Laverton North Power Station

Snowy Hydro Limited owns and operates a 320 megawatt Gas Fired Power Station at Laverton North, Victoria.  The station was commissioned in December 2006 to assist Victoria in meeting its current growth in peaking electricity demand.
The Laverton North Power Station assists Snowy Hydro Limited in meeting the needs of its customers in the National Electricity Market and significantly enhances Snowy Hydros existing generating capacity of over 4,400 MW.
The station comprises of two open cycle gas turbines fuelled by gas supplied via the Brooklyn-Lara gas pipeline. In the event of a gas supply curtailment, the station can be operated on low sulphur emission distillate backup fuel.
The station will normally be operated remotely from Snowy Hydro Limited's central control room in Cooma, NSW, but will also be equipped with full local control.
